Adrian Heath’s extra-time winner in the semi-final against Southampton at Highbury sent Everton to the 103^rd FA Cup Final, against Watford on Saturday 19 May 1984. It was Everton’s second Wembley game in three months, with The Toffees having played Liverpool in the League Cup Final earlier in the season. Goals from Graeme Sharp and Andy Gray won the FA Cup for Everton, with Gray’s goal, from Trevor Steven’s looping cross provoking controversy, as Gray appeared to head the ball out of Watford goalkeeper Steve Sherwood’s hands. Captain Kevin Ratcliffe, Peter Reid, Derek Mountfield, Neville Southall and Gary Stevens played in all 8 of Everton’s FA Cup ties, as a memorable season ended for the Blues with Ratcliffe making his way up the Wembley steps to collect the trophy.

It was the start of a very special era in Goodison Park history, with practically the entire 1984 FA Cup winning team going on to win the Football League Championship and the UEFA Cup Winners Cup the following season.
